Date: 14 October 2026 | Time: 11:00 AM PKT | Mode: Online Webinar

The Centre for Languages (CFL), School of Liberal Arts, University of Management and Technology (UMT), in collaboration with IELTA Pakistan, organized an online webinar titled “Strengthening Positive Washback through the Development of Teacher and Student Assessment Literacy” via Microsoft Teams.

The session featured Dr. Nikki Ashcraft, Ph.D., who teaches in the online M.Ed. TESOL programme at the University of Missouri, USA. She is also an English Language Specialist with the U.S. Department of State and coordinates the Assessment Issues Professional Learning Network for TESOL International Association.

The webinar highlighted the importance of teacher and student assessment literacy in promoting positive washback, improving classroom practices, and supporting meaningful learning.

The webinar was hosted and coordinated by Ms. Zara Saleem. In her concluding remarks, Dr. Amna Shahid, Head of CFL, emphasized the need to redesign assessment methods in the age of artificial intelligence (AI) to evaluate students’ actual learning, critical thinking, and independent understanding rather than AI-generated responses and rote memorization.

The event reaffirmed CFL’s commitment to effective language education, assessment-informed teaching, professional development, and academic collaboration.
