Student Conference

The Student Conference for English III was organized by CFL faculty members Ms. Sadia Noreen and Ms. Amnah Moghees as a platform to promote undergraduate research engagement. The conference was held on 22nd January at Saleem Asghar Hall, providing ENG III students with an opportunity to present their research proposals and completed research papers in a formal academic setting.

Students showcased their research objectives, theoretical frameworks, methodologies, and key findings, followed by brief Q&A sessions that encouraged scholarly discussion and constructive feedback. The event marked the culmination of the semester’s research training, strengthening students’ academic writing, analytical, and presentation skills while fostering a vibrant research culture within the Centre for Languages.


Industrial Visit to EBRYX

An educational visit was arranged by Ms. Maleeha Nazim, Lecturer (CFL/SLA), for computer science students (24) to EBRYX, located at Arfa Kareem Tower, on January 21, 2026, from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.  The primary objective of this visit was to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practices. Students gained practical insights into entering the software industry, using current cybersecurity features and AI technologies to address real-world project challenges, and the problem-solving approaches adopted in professional environments. The session also highlighted internship, training, and career opportunities available to emerging graduates, along with an overview of in-demand software development tools and technology stacks. In addition, students were introduced to the company’s products, services, and overall workflow. The visit proved to be a highly informative and enriching experience, offering students a clear understanding of how the software industry operates within a professional setting. 


 

From ‘Once upon a time’ to ‘what if…?

The Final Term Project (short film) display, conducted by Ms. Shama Iqbal Hussain from the Center for Languages (CFL) on 21st January 2026, showcased a compelling collection of student-created visual narratives centered around the theme “From ‘Once upon a time’ to ‘what if…?’” The event featured imaginative short films, produced by English 1 students, that reinterpreted traditional storytelling through speculative and contemporary perspectives, blending familiar narratives with creative possibilities. Each project reflected the students’ engagement with visual storytelling, narrative experimentation, and conceptual depth, offering audiences an opportunity to experience how classic beginnings can evolve into thought-provoking questions about alternative realities and futures.

 


 

Climate Change, Machines, and Their Mechanisms

As part of the English I Course, Center for Languages (CFL), School of Liberal Arts(SLA), facilitated an interdisciplinary final project for SEN-ME and CS students focusing on climate change and engineering-based solutions. The project encouraged students to examine environmental challenges and critically analyze machines designed to reduce climate impact, with emphasis on their mechanisms, functionality, and practical relevance.

Students demonstrated their ability to communicate technical concepts through clear, structured, and audience-appropriate English. Through model explanations and project presentations, learners showcased improved technical vocabulary, analytical clarity, and professional communication skills.

This initiative reflects CFL Faculty’s commitment to integrating language learning with real-world engineering contexts, fostering sustainability awareness, innovation, and effective academic communication.


A Tribute to Nobel Laureates: Celebrating Minds That Changed the World

Under the URISE initiative, Ms. Naheed Ashfaq Qureshi, Ms. Sadia Noreen, and Ms. Shama Iqbal Hussain from Center for Languages, successfully organized an exhibition, “A Tribute to Nobel Laureates: Celebrating Minds That Changed the World,” held on 5 January 2026. The exhibition featured documentaries and posters examining landmark contributions of Nobel Laureates across disciplines. Students demonstrated strong research engagement, critical insight, and creative presentation, illustrating how these exceptional thinkers have shaped knowledge, society, and global discourse. The event fostered an environment of academic exchange and reflective learning among students and faculty, reflecting the Center’s continued commitment to fostering research-oriented learning, intellectual engagement, and scholarly excellence.  

 

 


Language Lab Visit – Center for Languages (CFL), UMT

Students and the instructor from the Center for Languages (CFL) visited the Language Lab at UMTto explore technology-based language learning tools. The visit provided hands-on experience in improving listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills through interactive software. This activity highlighted the importance of integrating technology into language education to enhance communication competence and learner confidence.

 


Ms. Shama Iqbal Hussain, from the Center for Languages (CFL), organized Final Term Project Displays and Presentations for the English II course (sections C34 and C26) which were held on 17.06.25 and 20.06.25. This two-day event, celebrated the core values of the course; creativity, teamwork, and communication, by showcasing student-produced projects in three dynamic formats: Podcasts, Roast Videos, and Cultural Vlogs. Each group’s work reflected its understanding of course concepts as well as their ability to express ideas clearly, engage diverse audiences, and collaborate meaningfully. The event not only highlighted their academic growth but also created a vibrant and supportive space for peer learning and appreciation. Certificates were awarded to the winning teams in recognition of their outstanding performance.

 


Dr. Muhammad Samiullah, instructor of Persian language at the Center for Languages ( CFL) organized an exhibition on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, showcasing the creative projects of C4 – Fall 2024 participants. The event celebrated their engagement with Persian language and culture, inviting UMT faculty, staff, and students to explore their work. Attendees appreciated the students' efforts and the richness of Persian heritage.


Ms. Naheed Ashfaq Qureshi from the Center for Languages, SLA, led a successful storybook writing competition for English I students in January 2025, designed to foster creativity and storytelling skills. The competition concluded with an evaluation by judges Ms. Shama Iqbal Hussain, Ms. Sadia Noreen, and Ms. Aasma Najabat. Certificates of achievement were presented to the winners, recognizing their creativity and dedication. This initiative highlights the Center's commitment to promoting academic and creative excellence.
